I often pondered this myself and considered it to be a pointless phrase. However, given the common acceptance of it, I thought I'd let it go. Don't get me started on the meanings of cliche phrases though - I mean, how is pissing in somebody's pocket a compliment?

Re: Are you an online cake eater?

The verb 'to have' is often used in the past tense to indicate consumption, as in the following play:

Gabriel: Do you feel like dessert?
Claude: No, Claude, I've already had some cake.

In this example, Claude has in the past, eaten his cake, meaning than, similar to Schroeder's Cat, he has been able to simultaenously achieve the state of having his cake and eating it too. Hence, Claude is a cake-eater.
